This 8-week course will provide learners with a solid introduction to CAD and equip them with the knowledge and skills to create and modify drawings using AutoCAD. Having a computer-aided design education can create a lot of business opportunities. A business with CAD design training and experience can find work in many industries, from interior design and product design to engineering and architecture.

The aim of this course is to enable participants to develop basic skills in an AutoCAD environment.

→ Understanding the AutoCAD Interface

→ Creating, Opening and Saving Drawings

→ Drawing and Modification Commands

→ Co-ordinate Systems - Absolute, Relative and Polar as well as Direct Distance Entry

→ Layers, Text, Dimensions

One class (running Tuesdays) of two and half hours per week for 8 weeks (6.30pm-9.00pm)

CAD technicians are employed by companies and organisations in various sectors, e.g. construction, electrical, piping, structural and mechanical engineering, manufacturing, woodwork and metalwork, local authorities and architectural consultants. They generally work as part of an engineering, design or development team to produce the detailed 2D drawings required at the various stages of a project’s design and implementation. They work closely with architects, engineers, project managers, technicians, suppliers, quantity and building surveyors and clients.

Applicants should have basic computing skills.

This course is for people who have an interest in commencing a career as a CAD technician. It offers participants the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and competencies in computer aided draughting and design. There is no requirement to have any previous CAD knowledge.
