20 July 2018

Dundalk Institute of Technology recently teamed up with Dundalk Credit Union to bring a taste of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann to Dundalk.

The recent session, which took place in the Dundalk Credit Union, Market Street, on Friday 20th July, included members of the DkIT Ceol Oirghialla Traditional Music Ensemble . The performers included some of those traveling with Dr Adèle Commins, Head of Department of Creative Arts, Media and Music at DkIT and Dr Daithí Kearney, Co-Director of the Centre for Creative Arts Research, to Speyfest at the end of this month, with the support of Culture Ireland.

Drogheda whistle player Ciara Brannigan, Dundalk fiddle player Jane Meehan and Dublin guitar player Conor Walsh are all students on the BA (Hons) Applied Music programme at DkIT and were joined by BSc (Hons) in Computing student Caoimhe McKiverigan from Co. Down.

Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann takes place in Drogheda from the 12th to 19th August and DkIT will be well represented by staff, students and graduates throughout the week. See fleadhcheoil.ie for more.
