DkIT Science Lecturer Receives CMALT Professional Accreditation

15 October 2018

DkIT science lecturer Dr. Ronan Bree was recently awarded the International CMALT professional accreditation by the Association for Learning Technology (ALT).

CMALT represents a portfolio-based accreditation scheme developed by ALT that focuses on learning technologies, i.e. the broad range of communication, information and related technologies that are used to support learning, teaching and assessment. Ronan’s application was kindly sponsored by The Irish Learning Technology Association who ran a competitive application process last year, with ten people being supported nationally.

Commenting on his CMALT application experience, Ronan stated that

“Compiling the portfolio was a wonderful path to travel, both personally and professionally. It was enjoyable to reflect on my time in DkIT, and consider advances in my teaching and professional role. All of my recent successes have stemmed primarily from participating in DkIT’s MALT programme and the National Forum funded TEAM project, each supported so well by CELT and my department and school management. Being able to engage with self-motivated learners and like-minded colleagues every day really motivates you to improve. We are all driven to engage with learning and enhance the quality of our teaching so it’s wonderful to have opportunities such as CMALT to reflect on this. I look forward to updating my portfolio as I progress further with my professional development in DkIT”.

Whilst Ronan is the first in the Republic of Ireland to obtain this accreditation, he will no doubt be shortly joined by the other recipients of the ILTA sponsored programme, one of whom includes DkIT’s Peter Morris (School of Informatics and Creative Arts).
