DkIT-Servisource Nursing & Midwifery Scholarship Winners Announced

Three third year DkIT nursing students each received €1,500 to support their nursing studies with a scholarship award provided by Servisource

DkIT Students, Roisin Lavery, BSc (Hons) in Psychiatric Nursing, Ciara Murtagh, BSc (Hons) in General Nursing and Linda Mahon, BSc (Hons) in Intellectual Disability Nursing this week received the DkIT-Servisource Scholarship which was launched in 2016. At a ceremony this week, the students were presented with a cheque for €1,500 euros from Aileen McCann, Permanent Recruitment Manager, Servisource, which will support them as they the complete their nursing degrees at DkIT.



The scholarship programme is aimed at providing additional motivation and resources to nursing and midwifery students as they enter the third year of their degree, a critical point in their undergraduate studies. As part of the assessment process, students were asked to submit a 2,000 word scholarship assignment in which they reflected on their clinical experience to date and demonstrated their understanding of the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics for Registered Nurses & Midwives in Ireland.

Speaking today, Dr Myles Hackett, Head of Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Studies at DkIT said

“This award focuses on encouraging our students to reflect on a crucially important aspect of nursing and midwifery, which is to act with kindness and compassion while delivering safe, high quality care. Each of the winning students produced exceptional assignments and demonstrated a robust understanding of the topic. This is a fantastic achievement which will help enhance their CVs and will undoubtedly support them as they progress with their careers in nursing. I would also like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Institute to thank Servisource for generously sponsoring the scholarship.”

Also speaking today, Aileen McCann, Permanent Recruitment manager, Servisource, said,

“Servisource are delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with DkIT because we want to be associated with high standards, with quality and to be associated with supporting the nursing profession. This is the second year of the scholarship and we look forward to many successful years to come. We would like to wish all the nursing students every success in the future and we would be delighted to provide any support we can in terms of finding the best nursing opportunities for them.”

 

The DkIT-Servisource Scholarship is an annual award which is open to third-year nursing and midwifery students at the Institute. The deadline for next year’s applications will be announced in April 2018.
