"Sport and college combines well with each other and works well together and to be able to get the experience here through sport and college will definitely stand to me in the future."
Eunan (20) is a past pupil of St Ronan’s College, Lurgan, Co Antrim and he is studying on a Sports scholarship that allows him continue his GAA passion with his academic pursuits.
“I am on the Sports, Exercise and Enterprise degree course. I chose it because throughout school I always had an interest in both business and sport and no other course allowed me to combine them.”
Eunan had looked at course options in other third level colleges including in Northern Ireland but said, “they didn’t suit me, they were either Sports or Business but not combining the two really.”
“My parents saw an advert in the newspapers for an open day here and we came down and got talking to lecturers and I came down and saw the resources and chose it.”
Eunan played with the Antrim senior footballers last year until he broke his ankle and he is currently taking “a step back to get back to full fitness.”
He commutes from his home to Dundalk; a journey of about an hour.
Securing the scholarship means he can continue sport which is a vital part of his life.
“I think for me and for a lot of sportspeople and young people, sport is a lot to do with their life and for me it has been massive.”

He had thought about starting a sport related business but since starting the course, “everything has changed so now I am looking more at PE teaching with business studies or going into GAA development, a sports county development officer or perhaps working as a sports officer.”
